No, it's not just one era coming back, it's all of them. The 21 century is an age where people who are in to stuff from the 60's, 70's, 80's, and 90's, all seem to get along with one another. It's a blend of all things, if it were just the 80's coming back, then you'd see more people listining to Poison and Motley Crue ballads with big, poofy hair. not saying thats a bad thing though... and while im at it, punks are not an 80's thing, not at all. True punks can be found in 70's bands like The Ramones, The Stooges, and The Sex Pistols, but there is a few in the 80's and 90's that are punk like Black Flags and The Clash. Simple Plan, No Doubt and Blink 182 are NOT punk.
